2022 Masters odds, picks, predictions: Tiger Woods projection from golf model that nailed U.S. Open

The 2022 Masters begins on Thursday, April 7 and the Azaleas at Augusta National Golf Club are in full bloom as the top golfers in the world prepare to battle for a green jacket. Winning golf’s first major means a lifetime invitation to the Masters Tournament and a place in golf history. Defending Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama has been battling back issues, but he’s expected to be in the 2022 Masters field and there’s also still a possibility that five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods returns after a year away from the game following a serious car accident.

The latest 2022 Masters odds from Caesars Sportsbook lists Matsuyama at 28-1, while Woods is a 50-1 long shot to tie Jack Nicklaus’ record with six green jackets. Jon Rahm spent 43 weeks as the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking and is the 9-1 favorite in the 2022 Masters odds, while new world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is 16-1. Before locking in your 2022 Masters picks or locking in any PGS DFS picks on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, it’s up over $8,200 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2021 Open Championship, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. In addition, McClure’s model was all over Jon Rahm’s (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.

This same model has also nailed a whopping seven majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the Masters 2022 field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2022 Masters leaderboard.

Model’s top 2022 Masters predictions

One huge shocker the model is calling for at the Masters 2022: McIlroy, a 20-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles at Augusta and finishes outside the top 10. McIlroy’s 106 weeks at No. 1 in the world are the fourth most of any golfer since the OWGR was implemented in 1986, but it’s been nearly two years since McIlroy last held the distinction of being the top-ranked player.

McIlroy only needs the Masters to complete his career grand slam, but he’s been unable to seal the deal despite six top-10 finishes in 13 starts at Augusta National. It’s been nearly eight years since McIlroy won a major, and the 32-year-old who once looked poised for all-time great status finished outside the top 45 in three of the four majors last season. That includes a missed cut at last year’s Masters, his first since 2010, when he was just 20 years old.

The model has also examined Tiger Woods’ chances of playing in the 2022 Masters. In recent days, Woods Tweeted, “I will be heading up to Augusta today to continue my preparation and practice. It will be a game-time decision on whether I compete.”

The 15-time major champion defied all odds by winning his fifth green jacket at the 2019 Masters after having several back surgeries and now he’ll look to defy the odds again. The only semi-competitive golf we’ve seen Woods play since the accident was at the PNC Championship in December, a family event that he played with his 13-year-old son, Charlie.

Woods didn’t appear to be labored in the 36-hole event, as the father-son pair finished runner-up to John Daly and his son. Woods knows his way around Augusta National Golf Club better than anybody in the 2022 Masters field, but can the 46-year-old be competitive after over a year off? The model just locked in its Tiger Woods Masters picks here.

How to make 2022 Masters picks

The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of 18-1 or higher who will make surprising runs. Anyone who backs these long shots could hit it big. You can only see them here.
