BUCKHANNON – Readers, writers and creatives gathered for the celebration of the ARGO BOOKS grand opening Friday in downtown Buckhannon.
The storefront at 6 North Spring Street in Buckhannon was filled with cheers as the big red scissors cut the ribbon, marking the grand opening of this bookstore and community space.
Giveaway bags were offered to the first 25 customers of the day. Each bag contained an artist pen, sketchbook, black and white cookie, fidget toy, sticker, signature keychain and a plushy. Games, 3D prints, free books, origami materials and a scavenger hunt were also available for guests. This was a fun, family event with one thing at the heart of the celebration – a passion for literature.
“We like to think of this as a community space, a conduit for creativity where people can come to the clubs, hang out, and play board games,” said Jon Benjamin, co-owner of ARGO BOOKS alongside his wife, Abigail.
Benjamin explained that ARGO offers a collection of curated books and a place to inspire creativity while offering a meeting place for the community. Book genres include – but are not limited to – art, graphic novels, mystery, young adult, poetry and nonfiction. A full list of ARGO BOOKS club offerings and books can be found on their website.
Members of the Buckhannon-Upshur Chamber of Commerce, local governmental officials, community members and the Benjamin family were all in attendance at Friday’s event.
