ELKINS — Bridgeport Post 68 plated six runs in the fifth inning in taking a 7-2 win over Elkins Post 29 Tuesday night in Junior American Legion action at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
Post 29 led 2-0 as starting pitcher Preston Sweet held Post 68 without a hit through the first four innings before being chased in the decisive fifth frame.
Bridgeport utilized five free passes, a pair of passed balls and RBI singles by Brody Pierce, Grant Lively, Tanner Mayfield and Antonio Spagnuolo against three Elkins pitchers in taking a 6-2 cushion.
Post 29 plated a pair runs in the second as Kent Rowan had an RBI single and Kenton Haddix drew a bases-loaded walk.
Bridgeport tacked on an unearned run in the sixth to finish the scoring.
Alex Broschart took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in 2/3 of an inning of relief. He struck out two.
Sweet went four-plus innings, giving up two runs and fanning nine.
Preston Eversol finished in relief, surrendering one run and recording six strikeouts.
Pierce earned the win for Post 68, going five innings, allowing two runs on two hits, with seven strikeouts.
Lively went the final two frames, not allowing a hit and fanning four.
The teams combined for just six hits on the night, while 17 walks were issued.
Elkins (0-2) is scheduled to remain home at 6 p.m. today to battle Clarksburg Post 13 Junior Legion.
Bridgeport improved to 10-9 on the season.
