India will offer booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine to all adults from Sunday, although free third doses will be limited to frontline workers and those older than 60 who get them at government centres.The country has given 1.85 billion vaccine doses among its population of 1.35 billion. Of these, 82% are the AstraZeneca dose made domestically and called Covishield.Those older than 18 who received a second dose nine months ago will be eligible for the “precaution” dose, the health ministry said, using the government’s term for boosters.”Adding an extra layer of safety,” Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in a Twitter post flagging the decision.The booster programme started in January, limited to frontline workers and the elderly, administering a total of 24 million doses.

Ukraine has recorded more than 100 attacks on healthcare, since the start of the war on February 24, the World Health Organisation has said. India on Friday successfully flight tested Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) booster, a missile system, at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur off the Odisha coast here. The SFDR-based propulsion enables the missile to intercept aerial threats at very long range at supersonic speeds, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said. The test demonstrated reliable functioning of all critical components involved in the complex missile system and met all the mission objectives, it said.

The EU has so far frozen nearly 30 billion euros in assets from blacklisted Russian and Belarusian individuals and companies under sanctions imposed for Moscow’s war in Ukraine, it said on Friday. On Thursday, the rupee had declined 19 paise to close at 76.03.

IHC to invest $2 bn in Adani Group’s green portfolio
Abu Dhabi-based conglomerate International Holding Company will invest USD 2 billion in three green-focused companies in the Adani Group through preferential share allotment. “IHC will invest Rs 3,850 crore in Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), Rs 3,850 crore in Adani Transmission Ltd (ATL) and Rs 7,700 crore in Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL),” the group led by billionaire Gautam Adani said in a statement. It, however, did not say how much equity will IHC pick up in the three firms. The boards of AGEL, ATL and AEL met and approved the transaction on Friday.
RBI extends rationalised home loan norms till March 2023
Seeking to facilitate a higher credit flow of individual housing loans, the RBI on Friday extended the rationalised home loan norms by another year till March 31, 2023. In October 2020, the Reserve Bank as a countercyclical measure to deal with the COVID situation had rationalised the risk weights by linking them only with Loan to Value (LTV) ratios for all new housing loans sanctioned up to March 31, 2022. Card-less cash withdrawal facility across all banks’ ATM network soon: RBI
In a bid to check fraud, the Reserve Bank on Friday decided to permit all banks to introduce card-less cash withdrawal through ATMs. Currently, card-less cash withdrawal through ATMs is a permitted mode of transaction offered by a few banks in the country on an on-us basis (for their customers at their own ATMs). “It is now proposed to make card-less cash withdrawal facility available across all banks and ATM networks using the UPI. In addition to enhancing ease of transactions, the absence of the need for physical card for such transactions would help prevent frauds such as card skimming, card cloning, etc,” RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said while announcing bi-monthly monetary policy review.

With a continuous decline in COVID-19 cases in the country, the Indian Sars-CoV-2 Genomic Consortium (INSACOG) has started surveillance of sewage water at 19 different sites in 15 States to detect the presence of the Sars-CoV-2 virus. “Sewage water Surveillance started in India at 19 different sites in more than 15 states,” said Dr NK Arora, Chairperson of COVID Working Group, National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI). The surveillance which is called environmental surveillance was also done during the polio campaign in India. INSACOG has also clearly said that India hasn’t reported any case of the XE variant of COVID as of now.

RBI cuts real GDP growth projection to 7.2% for FY 23
While maintaining an accommodative stance, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday cut the real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth projection for the current Financial Year 2022-23 to 7.2 per cent, against the earlier projection of 7.8 per cent. The inflation forecast has also been hiked from 4.5 per cent to 5.7 per cent for the FY 2022-23. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, in his Monetary Policy Statement, said, “Real GDP growth for the year 2022-23 is now projected at 7.2 per cent; with Quarter 1 of FY 2022-23 at 16.2 per cent, Quarter 2 at 6.2 per cent, Quarter 3 at 4.1 per cent and Quarter 4 at 4 per cent.” The inflation, projected at 5.7 per cent in 2022-23, is seen averaging 6.3 per cent in Q1, 5 per cent in Q2, 5.4 per cent in Q3 and 5.1 per cent in Q4.

RBI keeps repo, reverse repo rates unchanged for 11th time in row
Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee on Friday voted to keep the benchmark repo and reverse repo rates unchanged for the 11th consecutive time. “MPC voted unanimously to leave the repo rate unchanged at 4 per cent. MPC also voted unanimously to keep the stance accommodative,” RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said in his Monetary Policy Statement. The repo rate is the interest rate at which the RBI lends short-term funds to banks. The reverse repo rate, the interest rate at which the RBI borrows from banks, remains unchanged at 3.35 per cent.

Delhi govt likely to roll out EMI facility on electric 2-wheelers for employees
In view of encouraging large-scale adoption of electric vehicles in Delhi to reduce air pollution, the city government plans to provide e-two-wheelers to its employees on easy monthly installments, officials have said. The government had on Thursday announced a major plan to push e-cycles — first 10,000 electric cycle buyers will get a purchase incentive of 25 percent (up to Rs 10,000), while the first 1,000 will get an extra incentive of Rs 2,000. The Delhi government is now contemplating a partnership with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited, a joint venture of public sector companies under the Union Ministry of Power, to provide electric two-wheelers to its employees, an official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

The Income Tax department has attached as many as 41 properties including a flat worth Rs 5 crore allegedly belonging to Shiv Sena leader and former chairman of the Standing Committee of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Yashwant Jadhav in connection with an alleged tax evasion case, said sources in the Income Tax Department on Friday. The attached properties include 31 flats in Bilkhadi Chamber Building in Byculla, a flat worth Rs 5 crore in Bandra and Hotel Crown Imperial in Byculla. The officials suspect of the acquisition of all the assets during Jadhav being the Chairman of the Standing Committee of BMC.

India logs 1,109 new COVID-19 cases; 43 deaths
India saw a single day rise of 1,109 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,30,33,067, while the active cases have further declined to 11,492 , according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. The death toll has climbed to 5,21,573 with 43 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprised 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 per cent, the health ministry said.
Sri Lanka to exhaust USD 500 million Indian fuel credit line by April end

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday opposed Maharashtra’s former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s bail plea in the Bombay High Court stating that he was the “mastermind” behind the money laundering case and that he had misused his official position to amass wealth. The probe agency also alleged if Deshmukh is granted bail, he can tamper with the evidence. The ED filed its affidavit in the Bombay High Court in response to the bail plea of Deshmukh.ED opposed Anil Deshmukh’s bail and told the court, “Anil Deshmukh is the mastermind in the money laundering case and misused his position a lot. If granted bail, he can go out and tamper with the evidence.”
Taliban announces deadline for Kabul airport contract
The Taliban on Thursday set a deadline for the Kabul airport contract that is currently run by the Qatari companies. The meeting of the economic commission, chaired by the first deputy prime minister, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, tasked the Foreign Ministry to give a definite time by which a Kabul airport contract would be signed, reported Tolo News. A statement released by the office of the first deputy prime minister said in a statement that Qatari companies are currently running the technical affairs of the airport but there has been no contract.
Mizoram reports 123 new COVID-19 cases in last 24 hrs
Mizoram reported 123 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s tally to 2,25,336, said the state health department on Friday. As per the data shared by the state government, with the addition of new cases, the active caseload in the state stands at 836. The positivity rate is 17.06 per cent. A total of 687 people have succumbed to the infection so far and 2,23,813 people have recovered in the state.
