Coyote Fire burning near Dorris in Northern California

Firefighters are on the scene of a new vegetation fire burning in Siskiyou County.

The Coyote Fire started before 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Coyote Ridge, west of Red Rock Lakes, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. It spread to 20 acres by 6 p.m.

It’s burning in an area off Red Rock Road, about 10 miles southeast of the town of Dorris and 15 miles south of the Oregon border. 

The fire isn’t contained, Cal Fire reported. It’s spreading at a moderate rate.

No evacuation orders or warnings were in place as of 6 p.m. Wednesday, Cal Fire said.
