The defense against Russian troops is also generated from outside Ukrainian territory and comes through the spirit of solidarity of thousands of people who respond to President Volodymyr Zelensky’s call by getting millions of dollars in donations to their compatriots who remain in the country.
Ukrainian resistance
What was said to be a fight of less than a week, has been going on for almost a month and does not stop because the Russian military has encountered a fierce resistance that is praised by the rest of the world and hence support is being generated to finance the Ukrainians the purchase of supplies from the borders of their allied countries.
Cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin are the alternative to alleviate the difficult situation in a country where everything has become scarce.
Data revealed by the Ukrainian government point out that since February 26 -when the Ukrainian authorities requested on social networks that donations in cryptocurrencies be sent to them- until this weekend, nearly 67 million dollars had already been registered.
“Today, cryptocurrencies are playing an important role in Ukraine’s defense,” Alex Bornyakov, Ukraine’s deputy minister for digital transformation, noted in a comment posted on an official site set up to receive support from abroad.
The new way to survive
As an alternative to cope with the services crisis caused by the lack of basic goods in the country, the Ukrainian government has converted about 80% of the funds received into local and traditional currency in order to carry out internal trade operations and the rest is kept in cryptocurrencies.
Michael Chobanian, founder of a Ukrainian cryptocurrency exchange, is one of several people helping his government receive donations through an informal arrangement.
“We are buying so many things that are saving lives on a daily basis and we are also stopping aggression, so it’s about the beginning of the new world,” he said in a voice message broadcast on social media.
