The Dynasty Trade Chart is a snapshot in time of the author’s perception of current Dynasty value. Obviously I think that’s helpful, which is why I try to put one out close to once a month. But I also recognize what would be more helpful is if I could tell you everyone’s value six months from now. Then you could buy the guys whose value is going to increase and sell the players whose value will drop.
In some ways, that is what the trade chart tries to accomplish, in that you should be able to buy some players cheaper than I have them valued and sell some players higher. And if I’m right, you’ll get some of the same effect. But to take that a bit further before we get to the trade chart itself, here’s one player at each position I could see being a major riser in the next six months.
At tight end it’s quite likely to be one of the free agents and I’ll eliminate Dalton Schultz because he’s already in my top-10 at the position. But David Njoku, Evan Engram, and O.J. Howard are all outside of my top 20 and any of them could soar if they land in the right spot. I’ll choose Howard as my favorite because my perception is that he’s the cheapest right now, but also because I still believe he has top-five re–draft upside in the right situation.
Ronald Jones is still just 24 years old, and a free agent himself. He’s also fallen to “throw-in” range in terms of Dynasty value. If he signs as a backup somewhere, he’ll probably stay in that range, but there are multiple outs where he could see a big boost. A return to Tampa Bay (without Leonard Fournette) is the most obvious, but if he landed in Miami, Buffalo, Houston, Atlanta, or Arizona he would get an immediate boost, even if he was in a competition or a full blown committee.
At wide receiver there are enough options for an article of its own, but I’m not sure the perception of Donovan Peoples-Jones has quite caught up with his potential value. If Njoku leaves, that opens up more deep targets, but there’s also the possibility that Jarvis Landry refuses to take a pay cut and ends up a free agent himself. If and when that happens, there will be an immediate correction as Fantasy managers wake up to the fact that a 23-year-old who has averaged 18.8 yards per catch is currently the No. 1 receiver for the Browns.
Quarterback is the easiest position for this exercise because Deshaun Watson could soar into the top five at the position again if all of his legal issues are resolved and he lands on a new team he has agreed to play for. Even in that scenario there may be a short suspension, but Watson has the upside to put him in the same tier as Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson, and he doesn’t turn 27 years old until after the season starts.
