Edwards Added To Men’s Basketball Staff As Director Of Player Personnel

AMHERST, Mass. Massachusetts basketball head coach Frank Martin announced the hiring of Doug Edwards as the Director of Player Personnel and Special Assistant to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach on Thursday afternoon. Edwards joins the Minutemen after spending nine years at South Carolina as the Director of Student-Athlete Development following time in the same role under Martin at Kansas State.

“I am so excited that Doug will continue to provide his mentorship to our players,” said Martin. “He was provided that for me the past 14 years. He is as accomplished of a player as there is from being a McDonald’s All-American, to a leading person in the building of Florida State basketball, to a top-20 NBA pick. He has a great basketball mind that will assist us in the building of our program.”

As a collegiate player at Florida State, Edwards led the Seminoles to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 1990-93. The Miami, Fla. Native scored 1,604 points in his career and is the only player at FSU to score 500 or more points in three consecutive seasons. Edwards earned All-SEC Second-Team honors as a senior before being drafted with the 15th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1993 NBA Draft.

Edwards was coached by Martin at Miami Senior High School from 1986-90, where he won two Class 4A State Championships, including one as a senior on the way to a No. 2 final ranking in the USA Today Super 25. Edwards was named Florida Mr. Basketball and was the runner-up for USA Today’s National High School Player of the Year. Edwards graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social science from Florida State in 2007.
