The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently announced that the fee for travelers intending to visit the United States with an approved Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) has increased.
Effective on May 26, 2022, the ESTA travel promotion fee was increased from $10 to $17, in addition to a $4 operational charge.
The good news is individuals with an approved ESTA do not have to re-apply for up to two years.
The CBP encourages international travelers to obtain an approved ESTA by using the official website Official ESTA Application Website, U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The ESTA is an automated system that determines the eligibility of visitors to travel to the USA under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) by air, land, or sea. The VWP enables eligible nationals of 40 countries to visit for up to 90 days without a visa if they have an approved ESTA.
And U.S. Department of State offers visa application processing.
U.S. citizens don’t generally need a U.S. visa, but when planning to travel abroad may need a visa issued by the embassy of the country they wish to visit. In this situation, see the State Department’s country information in the International Travel Section.
And your destination may require vaccinations in addition to COVID-19.
As an example, the CBP reminds travelers planning trips across Detroit, Port Huron, and Sault Ste. Marie border crossings on May 25, 2022, to have all required documents and to anticipate possible delays during the Memorial Day weekend.
Additionally, the TSA airport checkpoint travel numbers indicate the airports are bustling. In May 2022, the TSA is on pace to screen more air passengers than it did in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
And to reduce wait times at airport security screening, travelers can take advantage of facial biometrics and the CBP One™ app, a single portal for mobile applications and services.
The CBP is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of U.S. borders at and between official ports of entry.
