A hiker at Grand Canyon National Park died Friday afternoon after falling 200 feet to his death, officials said.

The hiker, a 44-year-old man whose name was not released, was near the rim west of the Bright Angel Point Trail on the North Rim of the national park, the National Park Service said in a news release

Officials said the man was off the trail when he accidentally fell off the edge of the rim. Responding rangers arrived at the scene after 3:30 p.m. and found the man’s body “approximately 200 feet below the rim.”

The National Park Service advises people to stay on designated trails and walkways at all times while in the park, not climb over railings or fences and pay attention to members of hiking groups.
