The Ukrainian edition of Marie Claire is instructing its readers how to give birth in a war zone and treat radioactive infections, as well as to remove acrylic nails so they can better hold a weapon. Elle’s website is offering advice on how to stay calm during the conflict, while its astrologer has predicted how long the invasion will last. Vogue has diagrams showing how Ukrainians can protect themselves from shelling.

Just three weeks ago, articles were discussing spring’s most coveted skirt (the mini) and how to perfect a smoky eye.

Although many of their print editions have not been distributed due to the war, lifestyle magazines in Ukraine have had an extreme war-time makeover online. So have some of their staff: the beauty editor
