Lifestyle briefs | Church hosts Christmas bazaar this weekend – Times-Standard

Church bazaar

Christ the King Church, at 1951 McKinleyville Ave. in McKinleyville, is hosting a “Christmas Bazaar” Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include lots of holiday decorations and gifts.

Marsh field trip

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

Bring binoculars and meet trip leader Carol Wilson at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata to enjoy the easy-to-walk trails. November often brings many ducks and shorebirds that will spend the winter at the marsh, too.

Tour the marsh

Friends of the Arcata Marsh is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.

Meet leader Andy Feinstein at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute, rain-or-shine walk focusing on marsh ecology, local history and/or Arcata’s innovative wastewater treatment facility. Masks are strongly recommended inside the building. For more information, call 707-826-2359.

Birding tour

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will offer a free guided birding tour along the Eureka Waterfront Trail on Sunday from 9 to 11 a.m., with leader Ralph Bucher.

This relatively urban trail offers the potential to observe species abundance and diversity compared to many more remote locations. This walk is on a flat, paved trail that is wheelchair accessible. Email Ralph Bucher to sign up for this field trip at [email protected].

Thanksgiving walk

Alex Stillman and Jean Santi will lead the Friends of the Arcata Marsh’s 22nd annual “Thanksgiving Day Ramble.”

If you’d like to set out on a 90-minute, rain-or-shine leg-stretcher before your big dinner, meet at 10 a.m. on Nov. 24 in front of the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center on South G Street. The center will be open for the holiday if volunteers are found to staff. For more information, call 707-826-2359.
