ALL RIGHT. WELCOME BACK. LOOK, IF THERE’S ONE THING, LOUISIANA LOVES A LOT, IT’S FESTIVALS, RIGHT? AND IN JUST ONE WEEK, A BOOK THEMED CELEBRATION IS BACK IN THE STATE’S CAPITAL. AND IT’S GREAT FOR ANYONE WHO LOVES ALL THINGS LITERARY. SO TODAY WE’RE BEING JOINED BY DIRECTOR OF THE LOUISIANA CENTER FOR THE BOOK, JIM DAVIS AND DEPUTY STATE LIBRARIAN MEG PLUCKY TO TELL US MORE ABOUT THE UPCOMING LOUISIANA BOOK FESTIVAL. GOOD MORNING, GUYS. THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE THIS MORNING. ALL RIGHT. I WAS TELLING YOU BEFORE WE CAME ON AIR, MY SISTER IS A LIBRARIAN. I’M, YOU KNOW, WAS RAISED IN A HOME FULL BOOKS. I’M REALLY EXCITED TO TALK ABOUT THIS. LET’S JUST START FOR SOMEONE MAYBE WHO HASN’T BEEN BEFORE. THEY HAVEN’T BEEN IN A WHILE. WHAT CAN THEY EXPECT FROM THIS FESTIVAL? WELL, OUR FESTIVAL IS BACK AFTER THREE YEARS OF NOT BEING IN PERSON. AND SO IT’S WONDERFUL TO BE BACK. WE’RE GOING TO BE ON IT’S GOING TO BE ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29TH FROM 9 TO 4. WE HAVE A TON OF AUTHORS, OVER 100 PROGRAMS, 200 AUTHOR HOURS. IT’S REALLY JUST A GREAT FESTIVAL FOR BEING ABLE TO INTERACT AND SEE AND MEET YOUR FAVORITE AUTHORS. AND THIS IS SOME OF THE THINGS, LIKE WE SAID BACK FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE COVID, YOU KNOW, KIND OF HALTED EVERYTHING. THERE ARE SOME NEW THINGS THIS YEAR, INCLUDING ARTWORK, RIGHT? THAT’S RIGHT. EVERY YEAR WE TRY TO WE ALWAYS GET A LOUISIANA ARTIST TO DO OUR ARTWORK AND THIS YEAR WE REACHED OUT TO ARTIST ANANI AD BLOCKING. AND WE WERE HOPING THAT SHE WOULD LET US USE ONE OF HER PIECES OF ART. BUT SHE INSISTED ON CREATING THE ARTWORK. ART FOR THIS YEAR AND WE’RE SO PROUD OF IT. I DON’T WANT TO FORGET TO SAY LOUISIANA BOOK FESTIVAL DOT ORG AND YOU CAN GO TO OUR OUR WEBSITE AND SEE THE ARTWORK AND IT’S JUST BEAUTIFUL OUR BEAUTIFUL CREATION IT’S CALLED MAGIC AND THE BAYOU ATHENEUM AND IT’S A PAPER IN STATUARY AND IN BRODERIE. IT’S IT’S BEAUTIFUL AND IT’S, IT’S PICTURES OF ALLIGATOR QUEEN ATOP BOOKS. AND SHE’S OPENING A BOOK AND ALL THE KNOWLEDGE AND WONDER AND PLEASURE YOU CAN GET FROM LITERACY AND READING. LET’S TALK ABOUT THAT, BECAUSE I THINK FOR SOME PEOPLE, READING CAN BE A LITTLE INTIMIDATING. AND SO I THINK THAT THIS PROBABLY IS A GREAT WAY FOR PEOPLE TO KIND OF GET INTO READING AND LEARN MORE ABOUT LITERATURE. IS THAT KIND OF THE IDEA HERE? OH, WE HAVE SOMETHING FOR ALL AGES AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU BRING YOUR KIDS OUT, YOUR TEENS. WE HAVE A KIDS ACTIVITIES AND AUTHORS AND STORYTELLERS. WE’RE GOING TO HAVE THE LOUISIANA FIRST LADY, DONNA EDWARDS, WITH HER CHILDREN’S BOOK AS WELL AS OUR PERENNIAL FAVORITE. AND JOHN AT DOWNING SHE’S GOING TO BE THERE. SHE’S ALSO GOING TO BE SIGNING HER FIRST GUITAR FOR US. SO THAT’S WONDERFUL. WE ALSO HAVE OUR LOUISIANA YOUNG READERS CHOICE AWARD ON OUR BOOK WINNER SUSAN HOOD IS GOING TO BE ACCEPTING HER HONOR FOR HER TITAN IN THE WILD BOARS, A BOOK ABOUT THE THAI SOCCER PLAYER CAVE RESCUE. THAT WAS REALLY INTERESTING. WE HAVE THE TEEN ACTIVE TEA TENT AND BOOTH THAT’S GOING ON WHERE WE HAVE SPEAKERS FROM AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR. SO HE’S GOING TO BE THERE WITH HIS BOOKS. SO WE JUST HAVE TONS OF ACTIVITIES FOR ANY READER OR LOVER OF BOOKS. YEAH, WELL, WE APPRECIATE YOU GUYS BEING UP HERE EARLY FOR US TO TALK ABOUT THIS.
