Voters focused on governor’s race, election integrity, abortion
Updated 4:00 p.m. ET Aug. 2, 2022
Many voters are focused on the results of the governor’s race today. Some, in particular, are especially concerned about the future of abortion rights in Michigan.
Stuart Schluckebier, who lives in Brighton, said abortion is the most important issue to him this election. Other voters who walked into the polls said government being a “disaster” is what brought them out to vote today.
However, Stacey Smith of Brighton said that it’s always important to vote, and that’s the reason she went today. “I always come and vote,” she said. Other voters in Howell, though, expressed distaste for the electoral process, saying they don’t trust the integrity of elections any more.

Things have been slow at polls in Brighton
Updated 2:30 p.m. ET Aug. 2, 2022
In the city of Brighton, precincts 3 and 4 at the Brighton Educational Community Center have been quiet: Precinct 3 had 78 ballots cast at 1:45 p.m., and Precinct 4 had 59. Megan Bryan, the chairperson for the 3rd precinct, said a lot voters do absentee balloting.
“It will be much busier in November,” she said. On the other side of the gym, Patty Thomas, the chairperson for precinct 4, sat at her table. “Everyone is being kind and friendly,” she said.
