No doubt about it — the Triangle economy is booming.
Thousands of new jobs, especially in the technology and biotech sectors. Startup companies blossoming into billion-dollar behemoths. Dozens of new people moving to the area daily from elsewhere in the country and around the world, creating both a boom in construction trades and a shortage of available housing.
To help you keep up with it all, The News & Observer and Herald-Sun are bolstering their business news coverage. Reporters who will cover retail developments and real estate news have joined our expert technology and transportation reporters. We’ll soon be increasing our science coverage as well, but that’s a story for another day.
Mary Helen Moore is our newest addition, covering residential and commercial real estate across the Triangle. Moore is a native of Eastern North Carolina and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. She’s coming home to North Carolina after a few years covering county government, environmental issues and breaking news for the USA TODAY Network in Florida.
New England native Lars Dolder recently joined The News & Observer as a business reporter with a focus on retail after working as a government reporter for the Chatham News and Record, where he also wrote a weekly business column. Dolder has a degree in mathematics from N.C. State University.
Moore and Dolder join Zachery Eanes, who covers the Triangle technology scene thanks to a community-funded journalism partnership between The News & Observer and Innovate Raleigh; and Richard Stradling, who covers transportation and has worked as a reporter and editor at The N&O for more than two decades.
Moore and Dolder are the latest of more than half a dozen reporters hired for new positions in the growing N&O newsroom.
