Percy Tau Should Be Sold

Following their defeat to Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League final on Monday night, an Al Ahly legend has urged the club to sell South African star Percy Tau.

The Red Devils progressed to the final after convincing semi-final performances against Algerian side ES Setif, where, in the first leg, Tau scored twice and assisted Taher Mohamed and Mohamed Sherif’s strikes as the Egyptians cruised to a 4-0 victory.

The Witbank-born forward was, however, unable to replicate that sort of form in the tournament decider as Al Ahly were defeated by Wydad 2-0 at the Stade Mohammed V, courtesy of a brace from Moroccan winger Zouhair El Moutaraji.

The loss was Al Ahly’s first in the knockout stage of Africa’s premier club competition since Pitso Mosimane took over as manager, with the team unable to capture a third consecutive Champions League title.

Following the defeat, former Al Ahly forward Taha Ismail has advised the club to get rid of the man who arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2021.

“Percy Tau is not a high-quality player as well, he should be replaced. We need to bring better players to Al Ahly,” the 1959 Africa Cup of Nations winner said, as per KingFut.

The Bafana Bafana international, however, was not the only player in Ismail’s firing line as he also urged the 42-time Egyptian Premier League champions to dispose of two other foreign stars in Ali Maaloul and Aliou Dieng.

“Al Ahly should sell Ali Maaloul, he’s a big name and the club can financially benefit from him,” the 83-year-old added.

“Dieng should also be sold, and after that, they should buy other high-quality players.”
