It’s not your average Tuesday. Election Day is here.
Which means a lot is going on. (Maybe a little too much for any one person to keep up with.)
Control for the House and the Senate will be determined after the elections on Tuesday. There are also key governor races in several battleground states.
Here’s what you missed this Election Day.

Republicans take Florida
Republicans are solidifying their hold on Florida.
Incumbent Gov. Ron DeSantis comfortably won reelection, as did Sen. Marco Rubio. Republicans in the state focused on inflation and frustrations over the economy. Democrats focused their messaging on abortion rights.
Miami-Dade County, which was previously a Democratic stronghold, shifted Republican, with DeSantis winning the area.
But one small glimmer for Democrats: Progressive activist Maxwell Alejandro Frost won in his election, making him the first member of Gen Z to be elected to Congress.

Democrats win key races in Colorado
Democrats held on to several key races in the state.
Incumbent Democrat Sen. Michael Bennet won reelection after a competitive race against Republican challenger Joe O’Dea. In the gubernatorial race, Democratic Gov. Jared Polis secured a second term after defeating Republican challenger Heidi Ganahal.
Virginia House Democrats hold some, lose some
One vulnerable Democrat held her seat for the House of Representatives — a sign that there might not be a “red tsunami.”
Rep. Abigail Spanberger won a competitive race against Republican challenger Yesli Vega in Virginia.
But Republican state Sen. Jennifer Kiggans unseated incumbent Rep. Elaine Luria, D-Va., in Virginia’s 2nd District, which underwent redistricting.

Democrat Shapiro wins Pennsylvania governor
Democrat Josh Shapiro won the Pennsylvania governor’s race against Republican challenger Doug Mastriano.
Shapiro served as the state’s attorney general since 2017, going on to defend Pennsylvania’s presidential election results in 2020 against legal challenges.
Mastriano was backed by Trump.
Hassan holds N.H. Senate seat
Democratic incumbent Sen. Maggie Hassan won re-election Tuesday evening.
Hassan was locked in a tight reelection race against Trump-endorsed Republican challenger Don Bolduc.
Greg Abbott re-elected in Texas
Republican Greg Abbott won reelection against Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke, who skyrocketed to national fame after a competitive but unsuccessful Senate race in 2018 and failed presidential run.
Abbott was favored to win in polling leading up to the election.

Kemp wins re-election in Georgia
Republican incumbent Brian Kemp won re-election for Georgia’s governor race, defeating Democrat Stacey Abrams.
This was the second time that Kemp and Abrams have faced off in the race.
