DALLAS — UTSA place-kicker Jared Sackett has been named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Monday.
Sackett made all four extra-point attempts and his only field goal try to help lead UTSA to a 31-28 victory over WKU on Saturday at the Alamodome. The senior kicker drilled a 49-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to give the Roadrunners a 17-14 lead they would never relinquish. He also had three touchbacks on five kickoffs in UTSA’s third straight win against the Hilltoppers. Sackett is now 7 of 9 on field goals and a perfect 27 for 27 on PATs this season.
Sackett also was named the league’s special teams player of the week following the season opener against Houston, and the Fort Worth native now has four career C-USA weekly awards under his belt. This marks the fifth time a Roadrunner has been honored this season, as quarterback Frank Harris has collected offensive honors three times.
UAB wide receiver Trea Shropshire earned the offensive player of the week nod and Louisiana Tech defensive back Myles Brooks received the defensive award. The C-USA Player of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.
Winners of three straight games, the Roadrunners (4-2, 2-0 C-USA) will travel to Miami to face FIU (2-3, 0-1) on Friday, Oct. 14. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT at FIU Stadium and the game will air on CBS Sports Network and Ticket 760 AM.
