See the Mountains On Amtrak’s Newest Summer Train — Vax Before Travel

New York City (Vax Before Travel)

Amtrak recently announced its newest train service, the Berkshire Flyer, which will soon pass between Moynihan Train Hall and Pittsfield, MA, with several scenic stops along the way.

The Berkshire Flyer will make it easy for the public to take advantage of opportunities to visit museums, attend concerts, visit unique shops, and enjoy outdoor recreation.

Furthermore, Berkshire Flyer customers can expect the same world-class amenities, including free Wi-Fi, the freedom to use digital devices without “airplane mode,” and the ability to travel with small pets on many trains.

The Berkshire Flyer will launch in early July and operate on weekends through the summer of 2022.

“Travelers who want to enjoy a summer weekend in the quaint valley towns of the Berkshires or experience all New York City has to offer can now do so sustainably, without being in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and while taking in the scenery of the Catskill Mountains all at once via Amtrak,” said Amtrak President and CEO Stephen Gardner, in a press release issued on May 25, 2022.

“The new Berkshire Flyer service highlights the continuing growing demand for train travel throughout the USA, and we are proud to meet this demand with our partners.”

The Berkshire Flyer will depart from New York Penn Station at 3:16 p.m. on Fridays and arrive at Joseph Scelsi Intermodal Transportation Center, 1 Columbus Ave, Pittsfield, at 7:12 p.m.

The train will make all the intermediate station stops as the typical Amtrak Empire Service train does on Fridays, including Yonkers, NY, Croton-Harmon, NY, Poughkeepsie, NY, Rhinecliff, NY, Hudson, NY, and Albany-Rensselaer Station.

Making all the same station stops, the Sunday return trip will depart Pittsfield at 3:00 p.m. and arrive in New York at 7:05 p.m.

The Berkshire Flyer pilot’s success will be evaluated further to understand the feasibility and demand of the service. Efforts to evaluate passenger rail service between the Berkshires and New York have been ongoing since 2018.

Additionally, the Amtrak team earned a spot on Forbes magazine’s America’s Best Employer for New Graduates 2022 list.

“We are looking for people to help us deliver the passenger rail service that America needs and deserves,” said Amtrak President and CEO Stephen Gardner on May 31, 2022.

“Our mission of connecting communities has never been more important.”

“With our growth, we are creating thousands of new jobs to provide more service, reduce our nation’s carbon footprint and help the economy recover and flourish in the years ahead.”

“Congrats to all the amazing people at Amtrak who work hard every day to help us grow and receive this recognition,” Gardner said.

‘While Amtrak passengers and employees are no longer required to wear masks while on board trains or in stations, masks are welcome and remain an important preventive measure against COVID-19.’

‘Anyone needing or choosing to wear one is encouraged to do so.’

Moreover, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is not a requirement.
