China reported 998 new COVID-19 infections on Oct. 22, of which 207 were symptomatic and 791 were asymptomatic, the National Health Commission said on Sunday. There were no new deaths, the same as the previous day, keeping fatalities at 5,226. As of Saturday, mainland China had confirmed 257,362 cases with symptoms.

Ayodhya has rolled out a red carpet for Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is arriving in the holy city on Sunday evening to attend events at the Deepotsav Mahotsav. The Prime Minister will witness a laser show in Ayodhya after paying obeisance to Ram Lalla at Ram Janmabhoomi temple. “All preparations have been made for a special puja ceremony at Ram Janmabhoomi on Prime Minister’s visit,” said Acharya Satyendra Das, head priest. Thwarting the smuggling attempts, the Border Security Forces seized 14.47 kgs of silver jewellery on an international border. On Friday at around 0710 hrs, troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier seized 14.472 kgs of silver jewellery with an estimated value of 5,85,276 rupees, informed an official release on Saturday.
