This year’s Thanksgiving offerings around the Ithaca area include some free meals

The weather is finally starting to feel like autumn, and we’re contemplating where everyone can dine in and around Ithaca and Tompkins County over the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend. As always, there will be a few eateries open, plus some community meals, and we’ve got the details.

Free community meals

Before Thanksgiving arrives, there’s a free Harvest Holiday Community Meal at the First Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 16th, co-hosted by OAR of Tompkins County, Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services, Ultimate Reentry Opportunity of Tompkins County, and Healthy Food for All. The dinner is 4:30-6:30pm, and they’ll be offering free food to take home including fresh produce and pantry items.

The Greater Ithaca Activities Center is offering a free takeout Harvest Festival meal on Friday, November 18th from 4:45-7:30pm. Pre-registration is required, though a limited number of walk-in meals may be available on Friday.

The Salvation Army is offering a free meal for dine-in or takeout on Thursday, November 24th, taking to-go orders at 607-273-2400 through November 22nd. To-go meals will be offered from 11-11:45am, and dine-in meals from 12-1pm. The menu includes turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole, corn, cranberry sauce, rolls and butter, and pies.

It’s not free, but Ithaca College’s Campus Center Dining Hall is having an early Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday, November 16th from 4:30-8pm.

Open on Thanksgiving

The Antlers opens at noon and their last seating is at 8pm, with their full menu plus a Thanksgiving platter with turkey, garlic mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, fresh seasonal vegetables, and cranberry sauce.

Cornell’s Office of Global Learning and Cornell Dining are teaming up for their 35th annual Celebration of Gratitude Dinner on Thanksgiving Day. There are two seatings at Morrison Dining, at 11:30am and 1pm, and reservations are required.

Gimme! Coffee is open normal hours on Thanksgiving except for their Gates Hall location on the Cornell campus, which is closed from Wednesday the 23rd through Sunday the 27th, reopening Monday the 28th.

Ithaca Bakery is offering dinners, pies and pastries, and breads for pre-order at ithacabakery.com or 607-273-7110 for pickup or delivery on November 23rd.

Lincoln Street Diner will be open Tuesday and Wednesday, then closed Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving week, reopening Saturday morning.

Moosewood Restaurant is offering vegan and vegetarian Thanksgiving family-style meals to go, including tofu walnut and sage meatloaf, butternut squash lasagna, roasted garlic and rosemary mashed potatoes with mushroom marsala gravy, stripe beet hummus and white bean dip, cranberry and orange relish, fresh fennel and apple slaw, and pies. Pre-order by Friday, November 18th at moosewoodrestaurant.com.
