SUTTON — The Tygarts Valley 11-12-year-olds can secure a berth in the Little League state tourney with a victory over Summersville at 8:30 p.m. today at Holly-Gray Park.
Tygarts Valley owns wins over the combined Belington/Tucker County squad and Braxton County in the District 8 tournament, while Summersville has defeated Clay County and Elkins.
The loser of tonight’s contest can also advance to state play as the District 8 runner-up as they will face the winner of Thursday’s late game between Elkins and Braxton on Saturday.
Play in the state tournament will begin July 15 in Martinsburg.
In 8-10-year-old District 8 play in Sutton, Belington/Tucker County faced Tygarts Valley in an elimination game on Thursday evening.
The winner of that contest meets the loser of today’s winner’s bracket game between Summersville and Braxton County on Saturday, with the victor moving to the state tourney as the District 8 runner-up.
The 8-10-year-old state tournament starts July 8 at Logan.
