Baton Rouge, La. (BRPROUD)- Volunteers from University Methodist Church in Baton Rouge have been packaging over 10,000 meals with the international non-profit, Rise Against Hunger. These volunteers are making a global impact on these nutritious meals.
Reverend Katie Mckay Simpson, University Methodist Church senior minister says, “the people who came out today tribe and true volunteers who really put all this event together. I was just able to show up and get out of the way.”
During the event, there were different age groups that worked together to scoop the food, seal it and package it.
Director of Children Ministry Sherri Lee says, “this is one of the greatest things about this event. is that I get to have the young kids come out they interact with older people. They run around and have a great time.”
A volunteer said the group made over 10,152 meals.
Many of the meals go down to South America such as Honduras, while the non-profit is trying to find a way to get meals to Ukraine during the war.
