born Boston MA April 6, 1926, the son of Edward Joseph Jr. and Edith Dring Diggles, died on the first of March 2022 in Henrico VA. Raised in Newport and Middleton RI; Walt, was a veteran of WWII (41st Division “Jungleers”) and Korean War.
Walt was preceded in death by his wife Virginia “Ginny” Holt; he is survived by his children Elizabeth (Raymond Pett), Robert (Susan Brooks), Susan, and former son-in-law Kenneth Holsten; grandchildren Jessica Jobe (JT), Nichole Simons (Jordan), Julia Holsten, Evan Diggles, Nicholas Holsten, and Joseph Holsten; and great-grandchildren Wesley and William Simons.
Upon retiring from the Army Walt established the data processing program at Tidewater Community College, lead research programs for the College of William & Mary Law School, and served as finance administrator for the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. Walt valued reading and education; he taught at local colleges throughout his adult life.
Walt, an Eagle Scout, was an avid reader and story teller; enjoyed creating and building; emersed himself in many hobbies; and he found humor in everyday life. Walt and Ginny were active in civic organizations throughout their lives. They shared many wonderful times with friends in the Yorktown Women’s Club, York Rotary Club, and Seaford Yacht Club.
Graveside service will be held Arlington National Cemetery.
